The Saratov branch of the National Center for Contemporary Art as part of ROSIZO and the Foundation for the Development of Modern Art present the CURRENT RUSSIA project — the annual collective exhibition of the main trends of the modern art of the country. Signed works and new works by contemporary artists from all over the country are united in a large-scale exhibition “Actual Russia”, the theme of which this year is the ADULT CHOICE.
In the culture of the beginning of our century, an adult who is responsible for himself and others is a fantastic construct. The social group "adults" eludes the definition. But adults exist! And, in many respects, the totality of their decisions determines the configuration of the present and, more importantly, the future.
Modern art - "non-children's work." Painting, sculpture, multimedia works in the project “Actual Russia. Adult choice "form a total quest in which everyone answers the questions of" test for adulthood. " Are you ready, the viewer, for a responsible decision? What is the essence of the phenomenon of “maturity”, what factors determine the generational transit to the phase of “maturity” and is the viewer able to determine with certainty his inner choice and thereby declare the status of “adult”?
It is considered that contemporary art asks questions, poses problems, is not afraid of sharp corners. Please: fake news and Russian hackers, post-memory and bioengineering, cultural identification and nomadic fluidity tell their stories in 7 halls of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts. There are exactly as many of these stories as the “Actual Russia” exhibition has of viewers ready for a free ethical and aesthetic choice. The project “Actual Russia: Adult Choice” is a cycle of endlessly divergent narratives of anticipatory art. The exhibition space becomes an oracle machine, in the labyrinth of which the viewer-partner selects fate. The correct answer everyone will know when he finds a way out of the maze.
