In total editorial freedom, the art historian and lecturer Gilbert Croué will highlight 6 contemporary visual artists freely chosen by him, during a discovery conference with the projection of works on the big screen.
Artistic dialogue, curiosity and sense of aesthetics stimulated, critical spirit awakened... an experience to share!
If we start from the classic hypothesis that "art always tells us something about our time", then art is a good reflection of time and men, art is one of the mirrors of society. Certainly, art is not the only mirror of a time: technologies, sciences, law, behavioral customs and many other fields are the reflections of a society considered, in a given time. But art, and the plastic arts in particular, are sometimes a good shortcut to reach information on “the spirit of the times”. It seems important to understand what is happening around us, to “understand our time to be of its time”. Not that we should forget what precedes us and the long time of history, but the present is also history that is being formed before our eyes. And it's a shame not to be part of the story. Contemporary art has become multifaceted and the globalization of thoughts and images leads us to look at what is being created in many parts of the world.
Having a knowledge of artistic practices, current questions, appears a necessary openness and enrichment, knowing that the art of our time is often related to the arts of the past. Contemporary artists are also heirs to history. Gilbert Croué
