With the topic AT HOME, the VONOVIA AWARD FOR PHOTOGRAPHY motivates a diverse and critical examination of social, economic and societal issues of today's life. The award honors picture series that are outstanding in form and content. The award, which has existed since 2017, is endowed with prize money of 42,000 euros and is awarded annually. The shortlist and the winners are selected by a specialist jury.
The works of the 33 finalists deal with topics such as identity, culture of remembrance, gender justice and migration. Dealing with different forms of housing is also the focus of numerous submissions. Questions about digitization and the consequences of the lockdown are also among the topics of this year's awards.
For the first time in the history of the VONOVIA AWARD FOR PHOTOGRAPHY, the highly endowed main prizes went exclusively to female photographers. Julia Autz describes the behavior of adolescents in a repressive system. Karina-Sirkku Kurz investigates the self-optimization of bodies with surgical instruments. Jana Sophia Nolle addresses the living conditions of poor and rich people. And Sarah Grethe goes in search of clues in her own family.
