ART PARIS ART FAIR: HONORING RUSSIA
Art Paris Art Fair asserts its unique identity as a European fair focused on promoting Eastern scenes (Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia). With 74 new participants, 20 countries represented, and 43% international participation, the 2013 selection is deeply renewed and international.
In 2013, the fair highlights Russia. Around ten galleries from Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Saint Petersburg, and Vladivostok will be at the heart of the Grand Palais, showcased on a platform, while about fifteen European galleries will present their Russian artists. With nearly 90 previously unrepresented artists, ART PARIS ART FAIR offers a true discovery of Russian art: from artists of the 1920s/1930s diaspora (such as Boris Grigoriev and Aleksandr Yakovlev) to non-conformists who opposed Soviet cultural power between 1960 and 1991 (Vladimir Andreenkov, Erik Bulatov, Igor Makarevich...), and stars of the contemporary and current scene (AES+F, Olga Chernysheva, Oleg Kulik, Boris Mikhailov, Pavel Pepperstein, Olga Kisseleva, Alexei Vassiliev...). Key figures in Russian photography are also present, including Nikolay Bakharev and Alexander Gronsky at Grindberg Gallery, and Rauf Mamedov at Lilja Zakriova Gallery.
Young galleries will not be forgotten with the launch of a new sector, "Promesses." Twelve galleries inaugurate the 2013 selection, encouraging the discovery of new talents: 16th Line (Rostov-on-Don), Leonardo Agosti (Sète), Backslash (Paris), Duplex 10M2 (Sarajevo), Edward Cutler (Milan), Galerie L'aléatoire (Paris), Lehr Zeitgenössische Kunst (Cologne), Nk Gallery (Antwerp), Galerie De Roussan (Paris), Vincent Sator (Paris), Trinity Contemporary (London), Xpo Gallery (Paris).
Dedicated to exploring the links between design and contemporary art, the Artdesign platform brings together a selection of 9 galleries showcasing exclusive pieces created confidentially by contemporary talents. Highlights include the "sculpture-objects" presented by a solo show at Galerie Mazel, unique pieces by Mattia Bonetti at Cat-Berro, the latest designs by Arik Levy, Matali Crasset, and Pupsam at Slott, a thematic exhibition titled *monochrome* at Domeau & Pérès, and the art and designer jewelry presented by Galerie MiniMasterpiece. For its first participation, Perimeter Art & Design highlights African design, while Mitterrand-Cramer gallery unveils creations by Maarten Bas, Arik Levy, and Tom Dixon.
A conference cycle produced by Art Paris Art Fair also contributes to spreading contemporary art to a broader audience.
